Our Mission & Vision

Our Purpose, Mission and Vision

KISWA was built by sex workers who understood that real change requires advocacy, community, and a relentless commitment to dignity.

To promote sex workers’ rights through policy change advocacy, socio-economic empowerment, research, and documentation in Nyanza Region, Kenya.
We do this through capacity building, community organising, and by partnering with health providers, government, and civil society to create systems that serve sex workers.
A society where sex workers’ rights are respected and upheld.
We envision a Nyanza Region where every sex worker can access healthcare, legal protection, and economic opportunity — free from violence, stigma, and discrimination.
KISWA was formed in 2014 by sex workers in Kisumu who had spent over eight years navigating violence, arbitrary arrests, and a system that ignored their needs.
Registered in July 2016 as Kisumu Central Smart Women Against Violence and HIV/AIDS, KISWA now leads a coalition of 22 sex worker-led groups across Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, and Kisii.
